Who we are

What we hold and why

An enquiry, viewing or message — your name, mobile number and email, and what you wrote — so that a person can answer you. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before a contract.

A reservation or a purchase — the above, your address for delivery, the order form you signed (the exact words, when, and the device it was signed from), your payment reference from our card provider (never your card number, which does not reach us), and every document about the sale. Legal basis: the contract, and the legal obligations that come with selling a vehicle.

A part-exchange — your car's registration, mileage, condition, what you declared and the photographs you sent. Legal basis: the contract.

A finance application — your name, date of birth, marital status, dependants, address history, employment, income and housing cost, because a lender needs them by law. We pass it to Vizion Finance, who put it to their panel. We do not use it for marketing. Legal basis: the contract, and our obligations as a credit broker regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

A vehicle we sell you — its registration, its MOT and its service history, so that we can honour the warranty and remind you when the MOT is due.

Marketing — only if you have agreed to it. Every marketing message carries a link to stop it, and stopping it does not affect anything else. Messages about your own purchase are not marketing.

Who it goes to

The people who help us run the business, under contract and only for that purpose: our database and hosting (Supabase, Vercel, Cloudflare and Fly.io), our text-message provider (Twilio), our card provider (Dojo), our finance broker (Vizion Finance, only when you apply), the DVLA and DVSA services we look a registration up against, and postcodes.io to price delivery. Some of these providers process data outside the UK; where they do, it is under contract terms the UK data protection regime recognises. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone to market to you.

How long

Records of a sale, including the signed order form, for six years after the sale, which is what HMRC requires. A finance application and its disclosures, for six years, the period a regulated credit broker must keep them. An enquiry that does not become a sale, until you ask us to delete it — we erase it on request, and every message we send you about it carries a way to say stop. Marketing consent, until you withdraw it.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete what we are not obliged to keep, and object to marketing at any time. Email hello@onecarsuk.com; we answer within one month. If you are not satisfied you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising cookies. It uses the cookies needed to keep a page working — a session for the cockpit our staff use — and one analytics cookie (Google Analytics) that loads only if you say yes to it on the banner, and never before. It counts visits and pages read, with your IP address truncated and no advertising signals; say no and nothing from Google loads at all. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
